George is a social teen who loves to play sports. He was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair for mobility, but he doesn’t let that slow him down! In 2016, Variety provided George with an adaptive bike to help him increase his strength, endurance and physical activity. This was important to his physical well-being, but also gave him the opportunity to keep up with his cousins and just be “one of the guys”. Soon to be a teenager, George enjoys hanging out with his friends and is active with a Wheelchair Basketball League. As he gets older, he is naturally looking for ways to be more independent. When his family moved into their new home, some adjustments were needed to ensure that George could be at home and be safe. Variety and our generous donors came through again, helping to fund a wheelchair ramp from the front door, allowing George to be home alone and knowing that there is a safe exit option in case of emergency.
